Story 8 The Amazing Mystery of the Soul

The Amazing Mystery of the Soul

(One evening, Rahul was very excited. He wanted to know more about the soul from Grandpa. As soon as the time came, he ran to Grandpa!)

Grandpa (looking at an old photo album)

Rahul (excitedly): "Oh wow, Grandpa! This is me as a baby, right?"

Grandpa: "Yes! See this one? You were just one month old. And look here—you were a chubby little five-year-old!"

Rahul (laughing): "Oh no! I look so chubby! Haha!"

Grandpa (shows another photo): "Now, tell me, who are these children?"

Rahul (thinking hard): "Hmm... Who are they?"

Grandpa (smiling): "These are your dad and uncle!"

Rahul (surprised): "What?! Dad and uncle? They look the same! I can't even recognize them!"

Grandpa: "Yes, my dear! As we grow up, our faces change. Even you look so different now compared to this old photo!"

Rahul: Really Grandpa! Our body keeps changing!"

Grandpa: "Exactly! Our body changes, but the soul never changes! It does not grow or shrink. It stays the same and helps our body grow!"

Rahul (curiously): "Wow! Grandpa, tell me more! What does the soul look like? How big is it? How heavy is it?"

Grandpa (smiling):  Rahul, you forgot to turn on your recording today!"

Rahul (shocked): "Oh ! I forgot!" (He quickly turns on the video.)

Grandpa: "Now tell me Rahul, who has a soul?"

Rahul: "Grandpa, all living things have a soul! Anything that can move and speak!"

Grandpa: "Very good! Do animals have a soul?"

 Rahul: "Yes, Grandpa!"

 Grandpa: "What about insects?"

 Rahul: "Yes, Grandpa!"

 Grandpa: "And trees and plants?"

Rahul (thinking for a moment): "Hmm… They don’t speak or walk, but they grow!"

Grandpa (smiling): "That's right! And they can create new plants too! That’s why they have a soul!"

Grandpa: "Now tell me, does a TV or computer have a soul?"

 Rahul: "No, Grandpa!"

Grandpa: "But they can talk, right?"

Rahul: "Yes, but they don’t grow, and they need electricity to work!"

Grandpa: "Exactly! Our soul is like electricity, giving energy to the whole body!"

Rahul (excitedly): "Oh! So, the soul is like a power house for our body?"

 Grandpa: "Very good, Rahul!"

Rahul: "Now tell me dada ji, what does the soul look like?"

Grandpa: "Lord Krishna says that we cannot see the soul with a microscope. We cannot measure it or weigh it!"

Rahul (amazed): "Really? Is that written in the Bhagavad Gita?"

Grandpa: "Yes, my dear! In Chapter 2 of the Gita, Lord Krishna explains the soul. Let's recite a verse together—"

(Rahul and Grandpa chant the verse together)

๐Ÿ•‰️ Nainam Chindanti Shastrani, Nainam Dahati Pavakah!
Nainam Kledayanti Aapo, Na Shoshayati Marutah!

 Rahul (thinking): "So, that means—"

Weapons cannot cut the soul, Fire cannot burn it!
Water cannot wet it, Wind cannot dry it!

Rahul: "So, Grandpa, the soul cannot be cut or burned, that means it never dies!"

Grandpa: "Yes, my dear! The soul is eternal—it never dies or disappears."

Rahul: "But Grandpa, can we see the soul?"

Grandpa: "In ancient scriptures, it is written that if you cut the tip of a hair into 100 pieces, and then cut one tiny piece into 100 more, that tiny 10 thousandth  part is the size of the soul!"

Rahul (amazed): "So tiny?! That means we can’t see it!"

Grandpa: "Exactly! But we can feel the soul through meditation and deep thinking."

Rahul: "So, Grandpa, does the soul leave the body when we die?"

Grandpa: "Yes, my dear. As long as the soul stays, the body is alive. But when the soul leaves, the body becomes lifeless."

Rahul: "But how does the soul leave the body?"

Grandpa: "It can leave from anywhere—just like sweat comes out of our skin or air comes out when we breathe. The soul flows out like a fragrance."

Rahul (shocked): "Like a perfume spreading in the air?"

Grandpa: "Yes! And just like a fragrance can be good or bad, the soul also has a scent of its actions!"

Rahul: "So, if someone does good deeds, their soul will smell like perfume?"

Grandpa: "Yes! But if someone does bad things, their soul will smell terrible—like something rotten!"

Rahul: "Oh no! And that bad smell will also affect their personality!"

Grandpa: "Exactly! That’s why we must keep our soul pure with good thoughts and kind actions!"

Rahul: "So, Grandpa, after the soul leaves the body, does it go to God?"

Grandpa: "Yes, Rahul! And then God checks the soul’s report card! He smells its fragrance and decides whether the soul gets a reward or a punishment!"

Rahul (curious): "You mean… like in school, where we get marks for our rest and exam?"

Grandpa: "Exactly! If someone did good deeds, they get a better next life. But if they did bad deeds, they might even be born as an animal!"

Rahul (surprised): "Really, Grandpa? That actually happens?"

Grandpa: "Yes, my dear! That’s what the ancient scriptures tell us."

Grandpa: "Do you have more questions, or did you understand everything about the soul?"

Rahul (thinking hard, rolling his eyes): "Grandpa, the soul is like a miracle, right?"

Grandpa (smiling): "Yes, and it has unlimited storage!"

Rahul (giggling): "How many GBs does it have?"

Grandpa (laughing): "GBs?! My dear, the soul’s storage is more than billions and trillions!"

Rahul: "Then why don’t we remember our past lives?"

Grandpa: "Because our new body saves only this life’s memory. That’s why we don’t realize that whatever happens to us is the result of our past life actions."

Rahul: "Oh! So, good deeds from past lives bring good results in this life too?"

Grandpa: "Yes! Good deeds bring a good life, good people, good education, money, and respect!"

Rahul (jokingly): "Like Amitabh Bachchan says—'Mere paas bungalow hai, car hai, fame hai!'"

Grandpa (laughing): "Haha! Yes, my dear! These are the rewards of good karma!"

Rahul (smiling): "But Grandpa, I have something better than all of that!"

 Grandpa: "What’s that?"

 Rahul: "My loving Grandpa!"

Grandpa (laughing): "And I have my dear Rahul!"

(They both laugh, and Rahul happily touches Grandpa’s feet before going to bed!)
